Our first event
When we started Ottawa Foodie Girlz back in August, I knew I wanted the first event to be for Phoebe Rose Doull-Hoffman. Phoebe is a little girl from Ottawa who has been fighting infant leukemia since 2010, at 10 weeks old. She and her family have a large network of supporters in Ottawa and beyond. You may also recognize her as one of CTV Ottawa’s Amazing People. I went to high school with her mom, Jenny, and started following her blog shortly after Phoebe was diagnosed. Over the last four years, I’ve read about treatments, tests, hard conversations, and diagnoses, but also a lot of hope, smiles, and love. Phoebe is an amazing little girl with so much strength and determination. I think that we can all learn a lot from Phoebe. In September of 2014, Phoebe and her family returned to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, after she relapsed for the third time. I wanted to organize an event to help them offset the financial burden of being in Memphis so they didn’t have to worry about money and could concentrate on getting Phoebe better. In October, I started looking for potential restaurants to partner with for a fundraiser and I came across Fiazza Fresh Fired. They had a section on their website about fundraising, so I emailed them with my idea. Stephen Lesh (one of the three partners) answered almost right away and loved the idea. Fiazza Fresh Fired offered to co-host an event with Ottawa Foodie Girlz, and donate 20% of the sales. We came up with November 25th as a date, which ironically is the birthday of Phoebe’s big sister Mae and her Aunt Marion. Word quickly spread on our various social media outlets and we received a lot of support from local businesses for our raffle.
We had a great turnout for our event on November 25th. We were so happy to see so many people come out to support Phoebe and her family. With everyone’s help, we were able to raise over $1,900 for the Doull-Hoffmans. To see all of the event photos, head over to our Facebook page.
Ottawa Foodie Girlz would like to thank everyone who came to the event, bought raffle tickets, and/or donated to our inaugural event. A special thank you goes out to the management and staff of Fiazza Fresh Fired for partnering with us and being so great to work with.
Thank you to the following for their donations for our raffle.

Due to the success of this event, Ottawa Foodie Girlz is currently looking at planning more events in the future. Each member of the team will take their turn supporting a cause that is important to them. We are always looking for new partners! If you are a local business interested in partnering with us or donating items for future events, please contact us.
