Celebrating our 1st anniversary as Ottawa Foodie Girlz

Exactly one year ago today, we decided to embark on a new adventure. Our group, focused on sharing our food experience while somehow adding in a charity component was born. We became Ottawa Foodie Girlz that night we haven’t looked back since. When we began, I had high hopes and a vision for so many things that we could accomplish. I knew that it would probably take some time for people to get to know us and what we were all about, for people and businesses to support our causes and to partner with us, and for us to be “accepted” into the Ottawa food scene. Today, I sit here writing this post feeling so grateful for all of the generous support and for what Ottawa Foodie Girlz has become. In the past year we have accomplished amazing things! We raised over $5800 for local families and organizations, raised awareness for causes that are close to the community and to us, and we also earned the cred to be invited to some of the best food events in town. And, through our regular dining either as a group or individually we have been able to experience some of the best of Ottawa food and meet great new friends and connections among the local foodie community in town. Some highlights from the past year include:

Our first fundraiser was for Phoebe Rose Doull-Hoffman and her family. This event raised over $1900 for this beautiful family. GO PHOEBE GO

For our first event, we partnered with the awesome team at Fiazza Fresh Fired.

Ottawa Foodie Girlz sponsored the welcome reception for Dee Gordon. She walked over 500km in the middle of the winter from Etobicoke to Parliament to raise awareness for Autism.

Heart Institute Telethon
We raised $1000 for the Ottawa Heart Institute during the month of February for heart month. Judy also volunteered at this years telethon and also shared her story on the Ottawa Heart Institute's blog.

Attended the first event put on by the Bytown Chefs Collective at Proulx farm.

Celebrated the grain with Canadian Club at their exclusive event at the Social.

Dine for a cause in support of Kat. We partnered with the Coasters Seafood Grill for a night out and raised over $1500 for Kat and her husband Josh

Took our first weekend road-trip to Prince Edward County. We explored different wineries and had great food.

Had a bake sale during the Great Glebe Garage Sale in May to support the Ottawa Mission. We only worked with all Works Burger locations, Luna Cafe and Crepes, Cafe Latte Cino, and Take Another Bite to collect the Mission's most needed items.

We presented a cheque for $1452 to the Ottawa Mission and stay to help prepare and serve a special meal.

We are fortunate and very thankful to all of our followers on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook who continually support us and follow our adventures. Thanks to all of you for your tweets, retweets, comments, and especially those who have pitched in to help us with our events. To celebrate our accomplishments, we decided to have a special dinner out at Beckta. We were fortunate enough to be seated in a private room, have a fabulous selection of great food, and even meet and speak to owner, Stephen Beckta. Here’s a preview of our night out. We’ll have another post soon specifically about our celebration at Beckta. A special thank you to the other girlz in the group. Thank you for believing in my vision right from the get go and supporting it. Also, for volunteering countless hours to ensure that our events are always a success.

After a summer break, we’ll be ready to enter year two supporting even more people in our community, with help from our followers, contributors and cheerleaders, we will plan more events and continuing our quest to experience yummy food in the capital and beyond. We are excited to announce that the next focus of our fundraising event will be in support of Harmony House with Chef Stephen La Salle at the Albion Rooms! More details coming soon.... Cheers! Judy
