We started planning this event at the end of August. Our last event, in May, was in support of the Ottawa Mission. This time we thought it would be great to support a women’s shelter so we decided to focus our efforts on Harmony House. We like to try different types of events and given the cause we thought a Ladies’ Night fundraiser was a perfect choice. We got in touch with Harmony House and started discussions with Kerry Gervais, their Fund Development Manager.
For those of you that aren’t familiar with Harmony House, it’s a second-stage women’s shelter. They provide safe, affordable transitional housing for women and children who are survivors of violence. Harmony House is the only second-stage shelter in Ottawa. It offers a range of programs and services to help the women and children who live there. They also provide to support former residents. Learn more about Harmony House at: http://www.harmonyhousews.com/about-us/. In selecting a venue for this event we quickly decided on The Albion Rooms in the Novotel Hotel. If you follow our social media, you will know that we love it! We enjoy the atmosphere, the people, and most of all the food. I contacted friend and Chef Stephen La Salle and pitched the idea. He was quickly onboard and so was the Novotel Hotel. The idea was a Ladies’ Night featuring charcuterie, canapés, and cocktails. We’ve blogged about our experiences at the Albion Rooms, check it out here. The Novotel Hotel was kind enough to donate the use of their Heritage room for the event. It’s a gorgeous room tucked in behind the bar and dining room of the Albion Rooms. With this amazing space we started to think about what more we could offer our guests.
A Ladies’ Night is not complete without a little pampering! We were introduced to Jeni MacMillian, owner of Minerva Spa by our friend Clara Calderone and she too was quickly onboard by sponsoring a trio of spa services to all of our guests during the event.
We also thought that it would be a good opportunity to have a mini marketplace showcasing some local, woman-owned businesses. It was a great way for guests to kick-start their holiday shopping! We were lucky to have the some amazing businesses join us, including: Hummingbird Chocolate, DaBalm, Emulisfy, Top Shelf Preserves, Jollification, and Just Because Jewelry. A big thanks to all of them for also donating an item or gift basket to our silent auction.
We were also lucky enough to have local signer Danielle Allard perform for us during the event. I first met Danielle when we were both volunteering during the Ottawa Heart Institute Telethon earlier this year.
Our event could not have happened without the support of many, many, local businesses. The donations for this event were fabulous and plentiful. We ended up with over 40 different items in our Chinese raffle and silent auction and a variety of sweet swag for ladies to take home.

Once everyone enjoyed the yummy food they were able to satisfy their sweet tooth at our dessert table. Our dessert table comprised miniature cakes, squares, verrines, cookies and more all surrounding a gorgeous macaron tower. All of which was generously donated by: Holland’s Cake and Shake, Strawberry Blonde Bakery, Thyme & Again, Quelque Chose Pâtisserie, and the Joy of Gluten Free.

We hope that all of our guests enjoyed the venue, food, desserts, entertainment, spa, and the amazing array of prizes as much as we did. We loved the energy in the room and received a lot of feedback that they enjoyed the event and got to make new connections (an added bonus). We are so happy to announce that we were raised a total of $2604.46 plus a large collection of the most needed items for Harmony House.
