On the 9th day of Christmas

This holiday season, Ottawa Foodie Girlz is celebrating the 12 days of Christmas with a festive Q&A style blog series featuring one local business per day. We’ve spent the last few weeks connecting with local business owners and each day we will we will reveal the business, their story, and a special giveaway. That’s right, we have 12 giveaways coming up!

Make sure to check out our 12 days of Christmas event page every day as we reveal the next business. All giveaways will start the day the blog is featured end 5 days later! All photos have been provided by the business, unless otherwise credited.

On the 9th day of Christmas my true love gave to me.....

Why/How/When did you start your business?
I started the business a little over a year ago. My parents are local business owners so growing up in that environment taught me how important small businesses are and the importance of building a relationship with your community. After graduation, I worked at a non-profit in the organic sector. I had heard of Kombucha before but wasn't sure what it was like. I tried it and after one sip, I was hooked and instantly knew that I could make a business out of it.

Tell us about your successes and/or challenges?
Before I started, I would fantasize about my Kombucha being in my favourite stores, cafes, and restaurants around Ottawa and now they are! It’s a very satisfying feeling!

One of the biggest challenges is that there is essentially no time off. In addition to my day job, I work on Culture Kombucha in the evenings and weekends. But I’m not complaining, I really do love it. Even after a +15-hour day, I’m ready to do it again the next day.

What is your most popular product?
The Ginger Kombucha is everyone’s favourite! It has a nice sweet and tart balance with a kick of ginger. It’s extremely refreshing and it’s good for you!

What do you want people to know about you and your products?
Don`t be afraid to try Kombucha! It’s known as the ‘elixir of life’. It’s very healthy for you, loaded with probiotics for gut health, and full of beneficial acids and enzymes. It boosts energy and strengthens the immune system. It can replace soda, beer, and Champagne; is a great cocktail mixer; and it is known as a cure for hangovers!

Where else can people find your products?
Find it at local independent natural health food stores, speciality stores, restaurants, and cafes around Ottawa and the surrounding area (for more locations, visit: www.culturekombucha.ca)

What’s next?
Next year, you’ll see a few more new flavours: some tasty mainstays and limited seasonal batches! Also, look out for a Kombucha self-filling station!
