Fall for the Arts: Mayor Jim Watson's gala for the arts

This past Saturday, Mayor Jim Watson hosted a sold-out crowd of 250 guests for his inaugural Fall for the Arts, Mayor’s Gala held at the historical Horticulture Building at Lansdowne. I was fortunate to be invited as media to this very important event supporting and recognizing local artists new and established. There were two beneficiaries for 2016, Ottawa Arts Council and the Ottawa Art Gallery. Mayor Watson announced that $75,000 was raised with proceeds going directly towards the Ottawa Art Gallery Expansion and the Arts Court Development Project. Guests at the event included Ottawa Liberal MP, Catherine McKenna, many city councilors, including Mathieu Fleury, Jan Harder, Diane Deans, and Tim Tierney along with a number of corporate sponsors like Rogers,...

Ladies' night fundraiser in support of Harmony House

We started planning this event at the end of August. Our last event, in May, was in support of the Ottawa Mission. The building was originally built in 1875 for Dr. James Grant and his wife Maria and their 11 children. Grant was the doctor to every governor general from 1867 to 1905 and also later a Member of Parliament. According to legend,...

Celebrating our 1st anniversary as Ottawa Foodie Girlz

Exactly one year ago today, we decided to embark on a new adventure. Our group, focused on sharing our food experience while somehow adding in a charity component was born. We became Ottawa Foodie Girlz that night we haven’t looked back since. When we began, I had high hopes and a vision for so many things that we could accomplish. I knew that it would probably take some time for people to get to know us and what we were all about, for people and businesses to support our causes and to partner with us, and for us to be “accepted” into the Ottawa food scene. Today, I sit here writing this post feeling so grateful for all of the...
