Dine for a cause in support of Kat

Over the past month we have been focusing our fundraising efforts in support of a local Ottawa woman named Kat Paradis-Blais. We had a number of initiatives including a bake sale, raffle, and our Dine for a Cause dinner event. The funds raised will be given to Kat and Josh will be used to offset some of the financial hardship they are experiencing: to help them with medical costs and day-to-day expenses while Kat is recovering from her second back surgery. During our campaign, Kat was able to share her story with MetroNews. Click here to read her story.  We partnered with Barb Mireault of Coasters Seafood Grill in the Byward Market for this event. We met with her in...

Celebrating the grain with Canadian Club

A few weeks ago we received an exclusive invitation from Canadian Club to “Celebrate the Grain” at their first-ever portfolio tasting and dinner in Ottawa at the SOCIAL. Admittedly, we didn’t know much about whisky so we thought this would be a great opportunity for us to learn more, experience an exclusive event at a great restaurant, and rediscover a brand that has been a Canadian intuitionfor so long. The evening had three components: the portfolio tasting, dinner, and one-on-one cocktail-making demo.  We arrived at the SOCIAL to find a small, intimate crowd gathered at the back sipping specialty Canadian Club cocktails and nibbling on cheese and charcuterie.   First up was a portfolio tasting led by Canadian Club Brand...

Ladies Who Lunch

Yesterday, I attended my first Ladies Who Lunch (LWL) event! The theme was: “Where the wild Things Are” and it was held at the Canadian Museum of Nature. LWL is the brain child of Catherine Landry, well-known in the Ottawa area for not only being an organizer of some of the hottest events but also for her tireless charitable efforts. She does all of this on-top of her day-job. She’s CEO of Cherry Pie Productions and Call Betty! and Head of Marketing for Big Rig Brewery. Whether it’s helping the homeless, rescuing animals, or raising money for numerous local organizations or individuals in Ottawa, she has a way of inspiring people to pay it forward and get involved in the...

Give with heart

February was Heart Month. Most of us know someone who has had some form of heart disease but many of us know little about what that means… and that's a problem! Heart Month is a great time to learn more about the causes, treatment and prevention of heart disease. It’s also a great time to support great institutions like the Ottawa Heart Institute (OHI): A world-class facility located right here in Ottawa. OHI is Canada’s largest and foremost cardiovascular health centre treating over 80,000 patients a year. The theme for this year’s campaign was: One Heart Healed, Many Lives Saved. I was once one of those 80,000 patients as I’ve mentioned before in a previous blog post so it was...

Sip 'n Slurp

Last night I attended the 2nd annual Ottawa Noodlefest hosted by  Privé. I first discovered Privé last fall when I attended Taco Fest. They are an event production and marketing company based in Ottawa that puts on events a few times a year.  Each themed event brings local restaurants and chefs together to promote their businesses and their food. Last night’s event had chefs showcasing their spin on Thai, ramen, and other popular noodle dishes. There were also a few other street-food vendors on site for dessert like Mr. Churros and Hot Cream Holes. Each event always sells out and this time was no different. The entrance fee was $10 and tickets can always be purchased in advance online. They...
