Ottawa Foodie Girlz supports the Shepherds of Good Hope with a holiday auction

We are so excited to announce that our online holiday auction raised $3255.00 for the Shepherds of Good Hope. Thank you to everyone that participated!! The Shepherds is one of the largest not-for-profit organizations dedicated to the needs of the homeless and impoverished in the city of Ottawa. Ottawa is such a giving community and this auction was no exception, we had over 60 local-area businesses and restaurants donate items for our auction. Items ranged from hotel stays, hockey tickets, and of course, many were food-related. A big thank you to all who supported us on social media by helping spread the word about our auction. About Shepherds of Good Hope Shepherds of Good Hope houses, feeds and supports those...

The Farm Boy way

In May, we received an intriguing invitation from Farm Boy to join them in their test kitchen. This was pretty exciting, because Foodie Girlz love their stores and products. Another perk of my recent move recently is that there is one just around the corner from my house. I don’t know about you, but with a busy work schedule I find it hard to always prep meals for the week let alone the next day. I really try but it doesn’t always work out and there is at least one night of the week that I have no idea what we are having for supper until I walk into Farm Boy. The salad/hot bar are my best friends! Farm Boy...

February is Heart Month

For the second year in a row, Ottawa Foodie Girlz focused its February fundraising efforts for the Ottawa Heart Institute Foundation during Heart Month. We decided to hold an online auction from Feb 15-20, 2016 to raise funds towards a new hybrid operating room. This hybrid operating room provides one setting for multi-disciplinary team of cardiac surgeons, interventional cardiologists and electrophysiologists to work side-by-side treating all types of cardiac cases at the Ottawa Heart Institute. The Ottawa Heart Institute has very personal significance for me, as I was patient there in August 2011, at the age of 32. I learned that I was a candidate to have a Pulmonary Thromboendarterectomy (PTE). It really is as complex and scary as it sounds, I...

Dine for a Cause in support of Phoebe Rose Doull-Hoffman

The Doull-Hoffmans Our first event When we started Ottawa Foodie Girlz back in August, I knew I wanted the first event to be for Phoebe Rose Doull-Hoffman. Phoebe is a little girl from Ottawa who has been fighting infant leukemia since 2010, at 10 weeks old. She and her family have a large network of supporters in Ottawa and beyond. You may also recognize her as one of CTV Ottawa’s Amazing People. I went to high school with her mom, Jenny, and started following her blog shortly after Phoebe was diagnosed. Over the last four years, I’ve read about treatments, tests, hard conversations, and diagnoses, but also a lot of hope, smiles, and love. Phoebe is an amazing little girl...
