Weekend road trip to Prince Edward County – Part 1

In early June, we set out on a weekend road trip to Prince Edward County (PEC). We experienced so much that weekend that we’ve had to split this post into two parts. This first part is a run down of our first eventful day in PEC. We met up bright and early on Friday morning and packed ourselves into our rental SUV. We had booked a Ford Escape but we were pleasantly surprised with an upgrade to an Explorer. Spring menu preview at Elmdale Oyster House and Tavern

A few weeks ago, we were invited to preview the spring menu at Elmdale Oyster House & Tavern. It was our first time there, but we’d certainly heard great things about it. The tavern itself has a long history and has been a fixture on Wellington for almost 80 years; it was taken over by the team behind Whalesbone at the end of 2012.   The evening was very relaxed with no assigned seating. Rather than a sit down dinner, guests we were free to mingle and to sit wherever they liked. Food was brought out in stages and served buffet style on the bar. Patio Season has begun and today we go to Murray Street

After a long and cold winter, it finally looks (and feels) like summer has hit the Nation’s capital. We've had a few nice weather days in a row and I know this because I found myself on having lunch on restaurant patios two days in a row. I couldn't help it! A true celebration of summer: good friends, great food and a gorgeous patio. Today the weather called us outdoors and we couldn’t resist going for lunch again. Table Erable

Last week, I received an invitation from Chef Stephen LaSalle of the Albion Rooms to attend Table Erable, the first event of the Bytown Chefs collective.  The Bytown Chefs collective is a collaborative initiative by seven young chefs in Ottawa that started in January 2015. The collective’s focus is to create unique dining events in and around the National Capital Region that raise funds for local charities.
