Ottawa Foodie Girlz supports the Shepherds of Good Hope with a holiday auction

We are so excited to announce that our online holiday auction raised $3255.00 for the Shepherds of Good Hope. Thank you to everyone that participated!! The Shepherds is one of the largest not-for-profit organizations dedicated to the needs of the homeless and impoverished in the city of Ottawa. Ottawa is such a giving community and this auction was no exception, we had over 60 local-area businesses and restaurants donate items for our auction. Items ranged from hotel stays, hockey tickets, and of course, many were food-related. A big thank you to all who supported us on social media by helping spread the word about our auction. February is Heart Month

For the second year in a row, Ottawa Foodie Girlz focused its February fundraising efforts for the Ottawa Heart Institute Foundation during Heart Month. We decided to hold an online auction from Feb 15-20, 2016 to raise funds towards a new hybrid operating room. This hybrid operating room provides one setting for multi-disciplinary team of cardiac surgeons, interventional cardiologists and electrophysiologists to work side-by-side treating all types of cardiac cases at the Ottawa Heart Institute. The Ottawa Heart Institute has very personal significance for me, as I was patient there in August 2011, at the age of 32. Celebrating the grain with Canadian Club

A few weeks ago we received an exclusive invitation from Canadian Club to “Celebrate the Grain” at their first-ever portfolio tasting and dinner in Ottawa at the SOCIAL. Admittedly, we didn’t know much about whisky so we thought this would be a great opportunity for us to learn more, experience an exclusive event at a great restaurant, and rediscover a brand that has been a Canadian intuitionfor so long. Give with heart

February was Heart Month. Most of us know someone who has had some form of heart disease but many of us know little about what that means… and that's a problem! Heart Month is a great time to learn more about the causes, treatment and prevention of heart disease. It’s also a great time to support great institutions like the Ottawa Heart Institute (OHI): A world-class facility located right here in Ottawa. OHI is Canada’s largest and foremost cardiovascular health centre treating over 80,000 patients a year. The theme for this year’s campaign was: One Heart Healed, Many Lives Saved. I was once one of those 80,000 patients as I’ve mentioned before in a previous blog post so it was...

Holiday "SOCIAL"izing

Time off from my day-job gave me the opportunity to try some places that I’ve been meaning to visit for a long time. Out of town family were visiting after Christmas and true to our annual tradition of post-Christmas dining out, this year we chose the SOCIAL. Surprisingly, I had never been to SOCIAL before but I had heard great things about it. Our dinner reservation was for four on December 27th. We arrived shortly before 6pm and were seated at a banquette-style table across from the bar. The restaurant has modern décor mixed with exposed brick walls, elegant chandeliers and plush red velvet. Tables were lined with tea light candles adding to the intimate but classy atmosphere. It was...
