Weekend road trip to Prince Edward County – Part 2

The main reason we were heading to PEC was to attend the Great Canadian Cheese Festival held every June. We first heard about this festival in late 2014, so we saved the date and started planning for this weekend in early 2015. The festival, now in its fifth year at the Picton Fairgrounds is a showcase for more than 125 artisan cheeses from outstanding cheese-makers from all across Canada. The festival is also a crowd pleaser offering cheese-related artisan food and drinks such as breads and condiments, wine, cider and craft beer as well as shortbread cookies, and other yummy treats! Ottawa Farmers' Market

The Ottawa Farmers' Market Lansdowne location opened today for the 2015 season, outside in Aberdeen square at Lansdowne Park. The season was officially kicked off with a ribbon cutting by Mayor Jim Watson. The market made its return last December for a series of weekends leading up to Christmas located inside the old Cattle Castle. It then continued inside from January to today. (This was after the market was temporarily located at Brewer Park for three years during the Lansdowne Park redevelopment project.)   The Ottawa Farmer's Market first opened at Lansdowne Park in 2006 with 19 vendors, today it has grown to over 100 local vendors at three different locations: Lansdowne, Westboro and Orleans.
